The Wall Street Journal has debuted "Celestial Railroad" featuring Mavis Staples and appears as the closing track on Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers' upcoming album, Rehab Reunion, available on June 17.
Bruce shared some background on the writing and recording process: "'Celestial Railroad' is a song I wrote in the early '90s, and sent to the Staples Singers through Bonnie Raitt. The first word back was that they wanted to record the song, but it never quite happened; Mavis told me when we got together to record that Pops never felt he was doing it quite right.
"So when it came time to record this dulcimer record, I thought this song would fit, so I reached out to Mavis again, she said yes, and this time it worked out. I went to Chicago to record her vocal, and we had the best time. We were only in the studio for an hour and a half, and mostly spent the time having laugh after laugh."
