I have enjoyed that piece, along with Mystery Train, for many years and often wondered if it was modeled after a friend in the throes of nasty nepotistic corporate politics. I love that song, and the 2-handed independence blows my mind! Many thanks, Todd. Bruce's Reply: It's from the book Makes Me Wanna Holler by Martha MacCall. Thanks, Todd, for the interest.

Date: 04-24-2008 12:10:45 PM Posted by: Gerry Russell | Hey Bruce,
I read where you and your brother Jon went to L.A. years ago to try and make it in the business as co-songwriters and you as a performer. You have most obviously made an important impact in the music business. I celebrate your success with you. It's always nice to see a good man make it. Confucious said, "Choose a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life." I was just wondering what your brother Jon does now. His lyrics are so poetic. Does he still plan to collaborate with you ever? One other question if you will indulge me. I have three sons, ages 25, 21 and 17. They hear your music as I listen to it. They're not really into, probably a generational thing. I just wondered what your sons think of your music. I'm trying my best to make you popular here in the Ozarks.
Bruce's Reply: He's preaching the gospel, moving to Uruguay (!) for a year.

Date: 04-24-2008 06:18:42 AM Posted by: cameron | Hi Bruce,
Ever since I was a kid I searched for the amazing and elusive artist behind the gorgeous piano work of "The way it is" until a friend introduced me to "Three nights on the town". What an album! My two and half year old son loves it too, it's the only DVD he will sit and watch for more than 10 minutes - he just loves the piano. I hope you'll inspire him to play the same some day! Maybe I'll put him on a plane and come up from Australia and see you some day - I know we'd both love it! (You're always welcome down here too!!)
Kind regards,
Cameron. Bruce's Reply: Thanks a lot. Glad the DVD got to you.

Date: 04-24-2008 02:12:01 AM Posted by: Linda Taylor | I am from San Antonio TX. I have been a fan for years--since 1986 and bought tickets to Stevie Winwood just to hear your music. Later when you came to San Antonio in December 1990 you cemented your music in my heart when you played a song I requested which was "The Road not Taken". If I remember right--you said (at the time)it was a song you didn't normally play at concerts but you did for me. Thanks so much for that and God Bless you!! I glowed for about after that! Years later I used that song in my English classes(that I teach in middle school) along with Robert Frost's poem (can't recall the name but it has to do with "The road that was less traveled". both of them dealing with choices. My students really enjoyed that activity and I got to hear your song several times that day. One thing about your music that stands out--(besides catching my heart) is that it is so visual and you can picture the sunsets and the geography and see the people and their circumstances in your head--just picture them. Listening to your songsis like reading a very good book. By the way I did go out and read that story by Lee Smith and several other books of hers--thank you for the pleasure. Bruce's Reply: Thanks, glad you got turned on to Lee Smith.

Just found out that you're coming to Omaha again!! Saw you in Peony Park in Omaha probably in about 1991 and loved the show, sorry for the long time in thanking you for it...(you looked around the outdoor venue and said musingly, "This is an interesting venue!" - admittedly, it was a pretty tatty place and has subsequently made way for a grocery store and a keno parlour)...wish you could work up some kind of collaboration with Mark Knopfler, I think you two would compliment each other. You are right at the top of the musicians in my life and there's a big pic of you in the "Who I'd Like To Meet" on my Myspace page (God that sounds so Valley-girl for old hip-replacement me...and on that note I hope I'm recuperated enough from THAT atrocity to my person in time to come see you at the Holland Center, by the way you will love that venue, very classy and great acoustics). Thanks for making my life a little brighter over the last 20+ years. Alldabest, Jacki Bruce's Reply: We're playing Omaha in October!

I read that when you were playing with the GD you and Vince switched instruments on a song or 2. As a musician can you describe Vince's rig? It was always a hot button topic among many folks. Bruce's Reply: I don't remember what his rig was.

Date: 04-22-2008 07:38:53 AM Posted by: Jill | By far, this man is my favorite musician. I'm really bummed that I missed his latest (local) concert with Ricky Skaggs. I wasn't aware of it until a coworker raved about the concert she went to the night before. I am inspired to learn to play the piano because of Mr. Hornsby. If variety is truly the spice of life, you have seasoned mine immeasurably. Keep it up! Bruce's Reply: We'll be back around.
